2013 Member of the Year Jackie Anderson The FMVA has selected Jacqueline Anderson to honor as the 2011 member of the year for a lifetime of contributions to the vitality of the arts through her work with students, organizations, and schools during her long and storied career. Jackie spent the majority of her career as an art teacher in the Fargo Public School system, where she is remembered and loved for her energy, enthusiasm, and sense of humor. Jackie has always been an artist at heart and has shown her artwork in numerous group exhibits and one-person shows, demonstrating her acuity in a variety of both dry and wet 2D media including pencil, pastel, acrylic, and watercolor. The FMVA is grateful to Jackie for a lifetime commitment to the arts in our area. We value and recognize the continuing impact her life's work has made. "I have been blessed to always have been employed in the art field, blessed to have very gifted and talented friends, and blessed with a family that accepts, supports and tolerates my obsession with art."
2012 Member of the Year Brenda Luthi The FMVA is proud to present Brenda Luthi as our 2012 FMVA Member of the Year. Brenda's commitment to the visual arts is a priceless asset to our community as she works tirelessly coordinating exhibitions, advocating for artists, and educating the artists of tomorrow. During Brenda's two years on the FMVA Board of Directors, she helped implement numerous opportunities for regional artists in addition to ensuring the healthy future of the FMVA through her careful procedural documentation. In addition to being a talented artists and a fierce advocate for the arts, Brenda is also an acclaimed visual art teacher at West Fargo High School. As a teacher, her compassion and skill lays essential groundwork for new artists. On top of all her art related responsibilities, Brenda also find the energy to raiser her two great children, Ally and Ryan, with her husband Chaun. Thanks for all you do Brenda! We are so proud to have you as our 2012 FMVA Member of the Year.
2011 Member of the Year Robert Kurkowski Talented potter, painter and owner of Marbakka Studio. Bob was instrumental in the development of the FMVA and served as the president of the board for the first four years. Bob is retired from a long and distinguished career with Fargo Public schools as an arts educator; he was host, writer, and producer of local public television arts education productions; he is a veteran of numerous arts residencies; he mentored many young artists in workshops and at the Creative Arts Studio; and he continues to contribute his wisdom to grateful artists and arts organization. “We admire and respect you, Bob, and we are very thankful for your friendship and your contributions to the FMVA. You are our champion!”
